Developer Log (Written after the fact) 1

This project started as a much smaller idea after I made my first Oculus app on my own. I made a little room floating in space full of my favorite things. Douglas Adams and Marvin being front and center in a VR world made we want to see more and more of his world in VR.

I began my research and found a ton of awesome 3d models made by Binkley Space Trucker on SketchFab. They had made models of tons of Sci-fi assets and luckily H2G2 was on the menu. Not only that but also the Starship Titanic Exterior to scale! This laid the foundation of the assets I still am using and plan to use. The models when downloaded are unpainted because of how Binkley's software exports the models. It means they need a paint job in blender first and I'm colorblind so Instead I've done different textures for the models for now. It's maybe close maybe not?

I made a small diorama of assets this way and I really liked it. It had panache, it was working and best of all it was mine to enjoy forever in my own little world. But then the thought hit me that it'd be better to share it somehow. And not only share it but turn it into something better than a standing only diorama. I wanted to interact, crawl around the Starship titanic, I wanted to talk to deep thought, and mainly I wanted to somehow show off everything I love about Douglas Adams. A museum... A museum is a perfect fit and it can be filled with whatever I wanted.

So I scrapped the diorama and began working on little projects for the museum. I started scanning my collection of H2G2 trading cards, books, cassette tape covers and more. I have one autographed card and almost a full set of the cards. I have all the mains, missing one holographic and then the ultra rare prototype cards... My idea was how can I share them, not in a plagiarism way and let people "print them out to look at themselves". I'll make a printer.

So then after I got that worked out I started on my floorplan! Read about that in part 2!
