The "Unofficial" Douglas Adams VR Museum

Welcome to the "Unofficial" Douglas Adams Virtual Reality Museum. 

We ask that all museum patrons please wipe off their feet before spontaneously teleporting into the lobby. We acknowledge that the museum is under construction and is a mess, but that's no excuse to just go about dropping off your manners like parents do with their kids at a daycare.

CONTROLS:

• Teleport with your right hand grip button (whatever the one by your palm is called)
• Click on UI elements (video windows & buttons) with the trigger on the right hand
• "Snap Turn" to look left and right with the right  joystick
• The other buttons don't do anything for now!

FINALLY after 7.5 million years of waiting you too can install the  Beta, Buggy and Binary Douglas Adams VR Museum Project! 

Santa was out drinking with Ford Prefect and has a massive hangover. He'll get it out sometime that day after several bloody Marys, but there's no exact time on the Earth clock. Just definitely sometime before midnight est where it's no longer Christmas Eve... Like a term paper you procrastinate on until the teacher is asking you to hand it in tomorrow. 

Technical details for the download procedure will be available in the downloads for each version. My testing equipment is an oculus quest 2 and can be loaded via SideQuest while the game is undergoing Oculus App Lab Approval.

SIDEQUEST INSTRUCTIONS

1. Download the "Advanced" version of sidequest from their website
   1. Easy version does not let you upload an APK file
2. Download the APK file from the downloads section and save it somewhere you can't lose it. You'll need it later!
3. Follow       this tutorial from Adafruit about installing apks files
4. Share and Enjoy!

ABOUT THIS PROJECT

Douglas Adams is a legend to me and many others, but not for the reasons you might expect. While this museum does cover hitchhikers goodness it also sheds alot of light on his other work. Douglas was a major tech advocate, believer in VR, IOT(it didn't have a name back then), the internet and more. Beyond technology he also supported and promoted conservational efforts like Save the Rhino international and more. 

Learn about all of this, his early life, his other books and more! This project uses some paid assets that I have license too, free 3d models are mainly provided by Binkley-Spacetrucker on SketchFab which is amazing! This is very much a community driven project being made by a solo developer as a free time project. All comments, criticism and etc are welcome but any bad mouthing of my personal hero Douglas Adams is off limits. 

There is also a non VR version of this in development simultaneously. It is not the priority though and will have limitations placed on it due to the licenses I have for certain assets. 

Additional Notes:

This is a community project so the museum will gladly accept submissions for any of the galleries or even add new galleries for materials. VR real estate is super cheap and our landlord isn't a complete jerk so we have lots of room to grow! If you do want to contribute materials please keep the following in mind.

Please honor his memory and wishes and don't share pirated paid materials through this project or the discussion boards. I want this to be a collection endpoint for Free publically available D.A. things and if we steal copyrighted materials, books, artwork and more we run the risk of losing all of it forever. Please keep Douglas's works out there in the subether and help share his life work with me!

3. Monty Python Gallery (yes, I know he didn't write for python, this is all about his friendships with Chapman and others for Python.

6. Deep thought dialogue tree
7. Moving around the museum and Dialogue Tree for Marvin
8. Wax museum models (lots of help needed here)
9. Proper coloring for every model
10. Write at least 50 more p.a. announcements
11. Missing or bad models for the Last Chance to See Gallery and Stats
12. Credits Gallery
13. Easter eggs
14. Overarching "game puzzle" of trying to fix parts of the museum and having some "plot" of some kind
